The artistic collections are situated in the historical authentic setting of the Archbishop’s Chateau in Kroměříž, a monument on the UNESCO list. Regarding its architectural and artistic significance, the dominant effort is that of preserving the building’s authentic appearance. However, this also brings several risks connected with the preservation and presentation of the collections that cannot be situated in a setting ideal for them as regards climatic conditions.

The group of paintings most endangered by changing climatic conditions consists of panels from the 15th–17th centuries; at the same time, these are the most precious items from the collection of paintings and include works by the most significant European artists of their era. These panels were restored recently and are thus in quite a good state. However, almost all of them give indications of first climate impacts that would be gradually causing further damage and could eventually result in the loss of their authenticity.

Having carefully considered all possibilities, it was decided to ensure protection of paintings with the help of frames of stable climate that eliminate negative effects of changing climatic conditions not only in the chateau itself, but during loan transportations as well. The effects and results of such a solution have been tested on two paintings by Lucas Cranach.

Another element of protection of artistic items exhibited to the public is the acquisition of a large showcase of stable climate with the active climate control. This would enable exhibition of delicate items more often and at the same time presentation of items borrowed reciprocally for pieces of art loaned abroad.

As a part of the project, germicidal lamps will be also acquired to protect collections from biological threats (fungus, mould etc.); these can be used directly in the exposition without manipulation with the collection items themselves.

In addition it was also included in the project acquisition of the protection covering for a big part of collection of graphic art, music archives and the most endangered manuscripts and the old printed books from the castle´s library, 2 mobile insruments for the regulation of humidity and low-suction table for conservation workshop.
